Description
The coin of 500Hryvnia denomination is dedicated to the icon of the Holy Mother called Orante in the St.Sophia Cathedral in the city of Kyiv.
Obverse
On the obverse of all the coins from this series, the center, there is depicted the St.Sophia Cathedral, the temple of Kyiv Rus period, the pearl of the old Rus architecture of the 11th century. The depiction is framed with beads decoration. Under it there are inscriptions: the period of cathedral foundation - 11th century, respective face value and the coin issue year. Above, around the coin circumference there is an inscription: УКРАЇНА (Ukraine)
Reverse
On the reverse of all the coins from this series, in the centre of the circle made of vegetal ornamentation, there is a depiction of the Blessed Virgin Orante, the Cathedral`s main mosaic. The figure of the Blessed Virgin Orante splits the horizontally located inscription ОРАНТА (Orante). Below. Above the vegetable ornament, there are indications of the metal, its fineness and the coin weight in fineness.
