Description
The year 1918 was special for us. The dream
of freedom became a reality. It would not
have been possible if it had not been for the
consistent activities of many generations of
Poles, who with faith in the future fought in
uprisings, nurtured Polish culture, and worked
for the common good of the nation in order to
achieve the desired goal.
On 11 November 1918 everything changed.
We opened a new chapter in the history of our
nation. We began building a new Poland. One of
the priorities of the newly-independent state
was to have its own currency, and the Polish
ZŁOTY was soon to become a tangible sign of
this.
In 2018 Narodowy Bank Polski will celebrate
the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining
its independence with the issue of special
anniversary coins and a collector banknote.
The first of these is the commemorative
circulation coin with the face value of 5 złoty,
which will carry the inscription: “100th
anniversary of Poland regaining independence.
2018”. The coin will be issued with a symbolic
mintage of up to 38,424,000 pieces so that it
will reach every Pole.
By issuing this coin, we express our deepest
respect for all the great-hearted people who,
by their attitude, contributed to the fact that
today we enjoy a sovereign Republic.
We Poles.
Prof. Adam Glapiński
President of Narodowy Bank Polski
