Description
Bolek and Lolek is a famous Polish cartoon from 1963, which children watched on television as a bedtime story for the next 23 years. During this time, over 150 episodes of this film were filmed in 10 series and 2 feature films. The creator of the concept of the series was Władysław Nehrebecki who, inspired by the characters of his children, decided to present them in a film in an overstated and exaggerated way. In turn, the names of the heroes refer to the pre-war Polish film "Bolek and Lolek" from 1936 directed by Michał Waszyński. However, the authors of the cartoon image of the main characters of "Bolek and Lolek" (Bolek - red shorts, yellow jersey, taller and thinner, Lolek - purple trousers with braces, white undershirt, shorter and fatter) were Alfred Ledwig, Leszek Lorek and Władysław Nehrebecki. In 1973, the creators of "Bolek and Lolek" introduced a third character to the film - Tola, who appeared in 30 episodes. Most episodes of "Bolek and Lolek" have no dialogue. The exceptions are the feature films and series from the eighties, where the main characters. The first of these was the film "Bolek and Lolek's great journey" (1977). Films with "Bolek and Lolek" were a great success in Poland and abroad. They were broadcast in many countries on all continents.
Obverse
In the central part of the coin: a stylized image of the celluloid with selected scenes depicting interesting cartoon characters. To the left, at the top, along the edge the inscription: ELIZABETH II, to the right: 1 dollar, the mark of the Mint: MW. At the bottom the inscription: Niue Island.
Reverse
Depicted using pad printing technology, on the central part of the coin are Bolek and Lolek in cowboy suits, riding a horse. The scene features one of the boys' adventures, as they head to the Wild West. The background on the right shows another shot of the main characters, where we see them throwing a lasso. There are also cacti and rocks in the background, characteristic of the Wild West's landscape. At the top of the rock there is a gunman pursued by the boys. The scenes chosen by the designer are highly dynamic, which emphasizes the fast action of the cartoon and variety of adventures of "Bolek and Lolek".
