Description
The Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) is the most popular species of ducks that hunters from around the world hunt. This large water bird inhabits most of the northern hemisphere, it can also be found in south-eastern Australia and in New Zealand. There are 7 subspecies of this bird however, domestic ducks originate from the Mallard. Mallard ducks live in areas of water, they can be found by the river, a pond, a lake or a peat bog. They feed from dusk until dawn therefore, hunting for this bird mainly takes place at dawn, when the ducks return to their nests. They can be hunted by sailing up to them in a boat or dinghy. The dog plays a very important role, whose task is to search for the shot birds. Smoothbore weapons and shots are used for hunting. Duck hunting is one of the easiest hunting animals.
